Public Lands Day, 2001  On September 29, 2001 almost 100 people showed up to participate in an "unofficial"  Public Lands workday.  The Clear Creek event was "unofficial"  in the sense that the Hollister office of the BLM was having an "official" Public Lands Day event at their showcase property, Fort Ord, and applied all of their resources to it (including even the toilet paper, apparently, as there was none in the toilet at Oak Flat Campground).

At the behest of William Schwarz, the BLM ranger assigned to Clear Creek, Bob Bennett of CA4WD and Ed Tobin of Salinas Ramblers organized the event.    Members from 10 OHV organizations showed up to participate.  William started the day with a short briefing about Public Lands Day and then the crowd dispersed to paint kiosks and pick up trash.  Several pickup truck loads of trash as collected by the volunteers.

Workers reassembled around 1PM for a lunch prepared by the Salinas Rambler's cook crew.  This was followed by a raffle of gifts donated by local OHV dealers and distributors.  Joining the group as invited guests were firemen from the Beaver Dam Fire Station (CA Dept. of Forestry) who provide fire protection and emergency services at Clear Creek.

Organizations participating included Bakersfield Trailblazers, Ghost Riders M/C, Lock and Low Visalia, Los Altos Dirt Bikers, Westside 4Wheelers, Timekeepers M/C, Hanford Trailblazers, AMA District 36, San Luis Obispo 4Wheelers, and Salinas Ramblers.
